This policy explains what personal information the Centre for Islamic Guidance collects through this website, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it.

Who is responsible for your information
Centre for Islamic Guidance (registered charity number 1151640) is the “data controller” for personal information collected through this website. We handle it in line with UK data protection law, including the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You can contact us at the details at the bottom of this page.
What information we collect
We only collect what you choose to send us through our website forms, plus some basic technical data.
| Form or source | Information you give us |
|---|---|
| Contact Us | Your name, email address, telephone number, the project you are asking about, a subject and your message. |
| Nikkah enquiry | Your name, your partner’s name, email, telephone, package, language, preferred date and time, number of guests, venue details (if you want an Imam at your own venue), extras, whether a civil marriage is involved, and any message. |
| Venue hire | Your name, organisation (if any), email, telephone, date and times, room, number of attendees, purpose of the booking, setup needs and any message. |
| Standing Order and Gift Aid | Title, name, home address, postcode, telephone, email, donation amount and frequency, first payment date, payment reference, your Gift Aid declaration and your typed name as a signature. We never ask for your own bank details online: you give the standing order instruction to your own bank. |
| Technical data | Your IP address, browser type and security logs, collected by our website and security software to keep the site safe and working. See our Cookie Policy. |
Because we are a faith-based charity, some of what you tell us may suggest your religious beliefs, for example when you enquire about a Nikkah. We only use it to deal with your request.
How we use your information and why
| What we use it for | Our legal basis |
|---|---|
| Replying to your message or enquiry and arranging Nikkah services or venue bookings | Your consent (you tick a box on our forms), and taking steps you ask for before a booking |
| Recording standing order donations and managing your donation | Your consent, and our legitimate interest in running the charity |
| Claiming Gift Aid from HMRC and keeping the records HMRC requires | Legal obligation |
| Keeping the website secure and preventing misuse | Our legitimate interest in protecting the site and our users |
We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for automated decision-making or profiling. We will not send you marketing messages unless you have asked us to.
Who we share it with
Your information is only seen by the people at the Centre who need it to help you. We also use trusted providers to run the website and handle email, and we share information when the law requires it:
- Our email provider (Google), which delivers form messages to our team.
- Our website hosting and security providers.
- HMRC, if we claim Gift Aid on your donation.
- Our professional advisers or authorities such as the police, where we are legally required to or there is a safeguarding concern.
- Google, if you accept cookies and load the map on our Contact Us page.
Our website forms send messages to us by email. They are not stored in a database on the website.
How long we keep it
- General enquiries and messages: only as long as needed to deal with them, normally no more than 12 months after we last contact you.
- Nikkah and venue hire bookings: for as long as the booking runs, then for a reasonable period for our records, normally no more than 24 months after the event.
- Gift Aid declarations and donation records: at least six years after the end of the tax year of the last donation covered, as HMRC requires.
Where your information is processed
Some of our providers, such as Google, may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they must protect it with appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or an approved adequacy arrangement.
Keeping it safe
We use security software, restricted access and sensible precautions to protect your information. No online service is completely secure, so please do not send us sensitive details you do not need to share.
Your rights
You have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your information, in some circumstances;
- ask us to restrict or stop using it, or object to how we use it;
- withdraw your consent at any time, for example by emailing us (this will not affect what we did before);
- ask for your information in a portable format, in some circumstances.
To use any of these rights, email cislamicguidance@gmail.com. We will reply within one month. We may need to check your identity first.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Children
Our website forms are meant for adults. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to contact us for you.
