Safeguarding Policy

Legal

Centre for Islamic Guidance is committed to keeping children, young people and adults at risk safe in everything we do.

Last updated: 5 October 2026

Our commitment

Everyone who comes to the Centre, in person or online, has the right to be safe and to be treated with respect. We take all concerns about harm, abuse or neglect seriously and act on them promptly. Safeguarding is the responsibility of every trustee, member of staff, volunteer and visitor acting on behalf of the Centre.

Who this applies to

This policy applies to all trustees, staff, volunteers, teachers, contractors and anyone acting for the Centre, and covers our programmes, including youth and education activities, events, venue hire and online services. It covers children and young people under 18 and adults who may be at risk.

Our principles

  • The welfare of children and adults at risk comes first.
  • Everyone has the right to protection from abuse, whatever their age, gender, disability, race, faith or background.
  • Concerns are taken seriously, recorded, and shared only with those who need to know.
  • We work with the police, local authority children’s and adults’ services and other agencies where needed.

Safer recruitment and conduct

We carry out appropriate checks on people who work or volunteer with children and adults at risk, including Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks where the role requires them. Anyone acting for the Centre is expected to follow our code of conduct, to avoid being alone with a child where possible, and to behave appropriately at all times, including online.

If you are worried about someone

  1. If someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
  2. Otherwise, tell the Centre’s Designated Safeguarding Lead as soon as possible, by phone on 020 7791 5151 or by email to cislamicguidance@gmail.com, marked “Safeguarding”.
  3. Write down what you saw or were told, using the person’s own words, and do not investigate yourself or promise to keep it secret.
  4. The Designated Safeguarding Lead will decide what action to take, including whether to refer the matter to the local authority or police, and will keep a confidential record.

You can also contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 for advice about a child, or your local council’s children’s or adult social care team.

Reporting serious incidents

As a registered charity, we report serious safeguarding incidents to the Charity Commission where required.

Review

The trustees review this policy at least once a year and after any serious incident.
